A crib for bed will allow you to keep your baby close at night, without having to get out of bed. The fabric is breathable and allows you to see your baby easily and they are easy to lower when you need an early feeding.
Some double as a moses's basket.
What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet or co-sleeper, is a small baby cot that is attached to an adult bed. This allows your newborn to sleep right next to you in safety. This is a secure form of co-sleeping and does not increase the risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It can also help you bond with your newborn baby.
These cots often have a side that can be lowered, so you can easily reach your newborn throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers who are recovering from a c-section. Some are also foldable or portable, so you can take them on your travels and use them as a temporary sleeping option for babies who aren't yet ready to move into a cot that is full size.
Look for a crib with a breathable mattress, and an appropriate cover to keep your baby safe from staining. You'll also want to pick up some baby-safe add-ons like a blanket, teether and cuddly toy.
If you are seeking a long-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you convert them into a toddler bed or cot at the time that is right. This is a great option for extending their life span and making the transition more seamless. Some have a removable top section that converts into a bassinet, and some can be used on a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is an excellent choice for families who intend to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms at night. You should also think about the size of your bedroom to ensure that you can fit the crib in comfortably. Many cribs come with a riser that can be used to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Known for their high-quality baby products English brand Joie has stepped into the world of bedside cribs with the Roomie Glide. The idea behind the product is to allow parents to bond with their infants while they sleep side by side without sharing a bed this co-sleeper has features that help make bonding between parents safe, easy and fun.
A smooth rocking motion can be activated by pressing a button. This gentle rhythm can soothe your baby into sleep without disturbing their natural sleeping patterns. This is perfect for older toddlers or babies who have difficulty settling down. It can also aid with digestive issues like reflux and colic.
The crib can also be attached to the side of the bed with a strap and clip attachment. This makes the crib sturdy and secure and allows you to sleep comfortably without fearing that your baby might roll off into the middle. The rounded cocoon shape has soft padded sides and double mesh windows at both ends to allow for plenty of air flow whilst protecting your baby.
The mattress included is firm and comfortable, and has a removable cover. The lightweight aluminium frame makes the crib very mobile and easy to put together. The four wheels that are rubber-covered and lockable ensure that the crib does not leave marks on your flooring and are easy to move. The crib is easy to clean with the fabric that is washable and is easily put in a bag for overnight stays.
The TuttiBambini CoZee air
This model is made to be a secure, next-to-me-crib from birth to 6 months. It comes with bars with rocking to make it easy to move and castors. Its airflow mattress is luxurious and provides an incredibly comfortable sleeping surface, while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are 6 different height settings, including an incline option to help with congestion and reflux.
Contrary to some cribs that are placed on the bed that can be a challenge to clean due to their incessant stream of snot and dribble The Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir has a wipe-clean liner and fabric that can be removed for machine-washing. Plus, it has an upper bar that can be easily lowered to feed at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.
Anna found the CoZee to be a safe and comfortable sleeping space for her infant. She was pleased that it didn't move like other models, so she wasn't disturbed at night while trying to comfort her child for feedings. She also enjoyed that the side was lowered so she didn't have to reach over her partner to carry the baby to feed her at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs that we've tested, and can appear rather utilitarian. It is also relatively light at 11kg, and comes with a carry-on case, so you can take it with you on vacation or even when you move house. The only additional items you'll require are a waterproof cover and a safety strap for co-sleeping. There are step-bystep instructions and photos to assist you in putting it together as you open the box which makes it a one-person task should you need to.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet that can be placed at the bedside that allows parents to feel more connected to their infant as they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and can be moved through three slide positions to be placed next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room, so that baby is always close to the parent's side. The mesh siding lets air flow through and allows you to quickly see your baby. And you can store more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket under.
The Iora is a bedside crib that is smaller and can fold flat. It also comes with a travel case which allows it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room, and our mum testers felt it was the right size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is great to store bedding and nappies.
bedside crib or cot is a great choice for parents who want to co-sleep but do not want to share their own beds or whose partner may have mobility issues, like arthritis or back pain. Our mum testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their baby while in the Iora and that it had an optional reflux incline that helped reduce gas.
Our moms love that it follows NICE guidelines. These are to place the baby in the Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets and pillows. The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for babies and sheets are readily available. It's not as light as other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move around, consider a different alternative.
